Meadow Musings
~ go home

What is a Musing?

A Musing is a real moment from the Meadow, retold through the imagined voice of one of the animals who lived it.

Several Dexter cattle graze in a green meadow at sunset while one red cow looks toward the camera.

The animals are real. The moments are real, too—the births, foggy mornings, empty troughs, the small misunderstandings, and the days that do not unfold quite like anybody planned.

Their words are imagined... though anybody who has spent much time around cows knows that imagining what they might be thinking doesn't always require much of a leap.

A Musing simply gives an animal a voice and lets the story unfold as I imagine they experienced it.

Some Musings are funny, some tender, and some carry grief or wrestle with things that have no easy answer. Most hold a wee bit of several things all at once — rather like life itself.

Musings are not meant to be sermons dressed up as cow stories. They are stories of ordinary Meadow life, told by animals who understand that nothing about their world is merely ordinary.

The animals speak of Jehovah as the Creator because they know the Meadow belongs to Him. He is not tacked onto the ending to give each story a moral. He is already there — in the grass, the rain, the changing seasons, the arrival of new life, and the quiet provision of another day.

Humans see a lot... but we miss a lot, too.

A Musing asks us to be still for just a moment, to listen to what might be said by some little Dexter cows in the hills of Tennessee.  They are quite wise, you know.

I hope you enjoy their perspective from the other side of the fence.
